Volunteering

We cannot pull off the Bill Thornburgh Ride each year without the help of our tireless volunteers!  See if there is a job you can help with below.

Runner

Runners help collect timing information from the in/out timers, ham radio team, and bring that together to keep our Leader Boards up to date.

If the ham radios go down, appropriately FAA certificated runners may have to hop into our private jet to collect the remote checkpoint times in person (just kidding!).

Experienced P&R takers are always helpful as the riders come in for vet checks.

No experience?  Then you can help with the P&R timing!  Track and announce the time whenever P&R technicians call out that a horse has achieved its metabolic criteria and can start counting down its hold time.  Be up close to the action at the vet check!

And, of course, free food!

Pulse & Respiration at Vet Checks

See first hand how the vets assess the horses.  As a vet secretary you help the vet transcribe their notes on to vet cards.

Veterinarian Secretary

The best seat in the house for volunteering!  Watch all of the horses and riders as they start, vet, and end their rides each day.

And, of course, free food!

In and Out Timing
Hospitality

The horses get hay and water at multiple stops along the loops.

Hospitality volunteers help to create the food for the volunteers and for the riders and crew at Saturday evening's dinner.
